Spring is almost here, and I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to embrace the sunshine, colorful blooms, and all things creative with my kids! After a long winter, there’s always something extra special about getting outdoors and making the most of the season’s beauty. Whether it’s creating art with tissue paper, using Q-Tips or a sponge to paint, or simply playing with the textures and colors of nature, spring is the perfect time to dive into projects that are as bright and cheerful as the season itself.
In this post, I’ve put together a few of my favorite springtime crafts that are not only fun but also give your kids the chance to explore and connect with the world around them. These simple yet delightful activities are perfect for little hands (and big imaginations) and will keep your kids entertained while celebrating everything that makes spring so magical.
Let’s make some lasting memories together! 🌷 🌈 🌧 🌳
Our favorite Spring crafts:
1. Do A Dot Rainbow

Materials:
- Construction paper
- Do A Dot Art! markers
- Jumbo cotton balls
- Glue
Instructions:
This craft is such a joyful and colorful way to celebrate spring with your little ones! All you need are a few basic supplies and you’re all set for a fun and creative afternoon.
My kids love using dot markers to create colorful designs, and this rainbow craft is no exception. The markers are easy for little hands to grip and make creating bold, bright rainbow stripes a breeze. My little ones always get so excited to choose their favorite colors and fill in each section of the rainbow, bringing the craft to life in a way that’s uniquely their own.
First, I would suggest helping your kids draw a simple outline of the rainbow and clouds on construction paper with a pencil or marker.
Once the outline is ready, my kids love filling in the rainbow with dot markers, which make the process easy. They love using the markers to create vibrant stripes of color, and it’s so satisfying to watch the rainbow come together, one dot at a time. The results are always bright and cheerful!
After the rainbow is painted, we add the final touch – clouds made from jumbo cotton balls! This is where the fun really comes in. My kids love gluing on the fluffy cotton balls to form soft, puffy clouds at both ends of the rainbow. It’s a great way to add texture to the artwork and give it a three-dimensional feel.
What I love about this project is how easy it is to set up and the opportunity it gives kids to experiment with colors while improving their fine motor skills. It’s a fantastic way to combine art and a little hands-on learning about the rainbow’s colors!
Whether you’re doing this craft at home or in the classroom, it’s guaranteed to bring a lot of joy – and a burst of color – into your day. 🌈
2. Q-Tip Painted Flowers

Materials:
- Construction paper
- Q-Tips
- Paint
- Scissors
- Glue
Instructions:
The Q-Tip Painted Flowers craft is one of my personal favorites because it’s such a fun and creative way to explore spring’s beauty with little ones!
We start by cutting out a simple pot shape from construction paper and gluing it to a piece of paper as the base. This is the perfect starting point for creating a flower garden! Once the pots are in place, I tape a couple of Q-tips together, which we can use instead of a paintbrush (we absolutely love using Q-tips to paint with!). We draw stems and leaves with a single Q-tip. Then, we dip a q-tip bunch in paint and use it to create beautiful flower petals. It’s a great way for kids to practice their fine motor skills. The best part is that each flower looks unique, and they can experiment with different colors and patterns for the petals.
The end result is a colorful garden of flowers. 🌸
What I love about this craft is how customizable it is. Kids can choose any color they like for their flowers, mix colors, or even create fun patterns on the petals. It’s also a great opportunity to talk about the different types of flowers that bloom in spring and teach them about nature.
It’s the perfect way to welcome spring into your home while enjoying some quiet, focused crafting time together!
3. Spring Tree

Materials:
- Construction paper
- Sponge
- Paint
- Tissue paper
- Glue
Instructions:
This craft is such a fun and creative way to capture the beauty of spring!
We start by cutting a sponge into small 1-inch squares, which are perfect for little hands to use as a paintbrush. My kids absolutely love this part of the process – there’s something so fun about using a sponge instead of a traditional paintbrush. We dip the sponge squares into brown paint and stamp them onto construction paper to form the tree trunk and branches. I also like to stamp some green “leaves” with my sponge to make the craft more colorful. It’s a great way for kids to practice their stamping technique and get a little messy in the process, which is always a win in our house!
Once the tree is dry, we move on to adding the pink blooms using crumpled tissue paper. I cut the tissue paper into small squares, and then my kids love crumpling them up into little balls. We glue these tissue paper “blooms” all over the tree, giving it a beautiful pop of color and a springtime feel. The texture of the crumpled tissue paper really brings the tree to life, and the kids get so excited to see their tree covered in soft, colorful blossoms.
It’s such a simple craft, but the end result is always stunning, and it’s the perfect way to celebrate the season! 🌸🌳
4. Rainy Day Craft

Materials:
- Construction paper
- Jumbo cotton balls
- Tissue paper
- Glue
Instructions:
The Rainy Day Craft is a wonderful way to bring a little touch of spring’s weather indoors!
For this project, I love using two colors of construction paper – blue for the sky and green for the grass. It’s a simple but effective way to show the contrast between the sky and the earth, and it really sets the stage for the rest of the craft.
We then start by making clouds out of jumbo cotton balls. They love gluing the fluffy cotton balls onto the paper to create soft, puffy clouds that really bring the scene to life.
Once the clouds are in place, we move on to the rain. For the rain drops, I give my kids some blue tissue paper to crumble into tiny pieces, and they glue the crumbled tissue onto the blue sky to represent the falling raindrops. It’s such a fun and hands-on activity!
To finish off the craft, we add colorful flowers in the grass, made from more crumbled tissue paper in shades of pink and purple.
It’s amazing how just a few simple materials can come together to make such a cheerful and playful scene that celebrates the beauty of rainy days and spring blooms. 🌧🌸
5. April Showers Bring May Flowers Handprint Art

Materials:
- Construction paper
- Paint
- Markers
Instructions:
This handprint art is such a sweet and meaningful craft to do with little ones!
For this project, we start by drawing a simple umbrella handle on the left side of the paper and a few small flowers or grass on the right side using markers. It’s a great way to get the kids involved in adding their own artistic touches right from the start.
The fun really begins when we dip their hands in paint – one handprint will form the top of the umbrella, and the other will make a big flower on the right. My kids love making handprints, and it’s always a moment of giggles when their hands are covered in paint!
Once the handprints are dry, we finish off the craft by writing “April Showers Bring May Flowers” at the top, which adds a sweet, seasonal touch.
The kids always enjoy seeing their handprints turned into something special, and this craft is a perfect way to celebrate the transition from spring rain to beautiful blooming flowers. Plus, it’s a fun way to teach them about the changing seasons while creating a keepsake they can look back on for years to come.
If you’ve read any of my previous blog posts, you know how much I love creating handprint art keepsakes! This one is definitely a favorite in our house! 🌧🌸
6. On the Meadow Family Handprint Project

Materials:
- Construction paper
- Paint
- Markers (optional)
Instructions:
Once in a while I like to engage the whole family to work on a “keepsake” project – I think it’s the perfect way to create a lasting memory together!
We start by laying out a large sheet of construction paper, and then each family member takes turns making their handprint in a different color of paint. It’s always fun to see how everyone’s hands turn out, from little hands to grown-up ones!
Once all the handprints are done, we add some special touches like leaves made from our fingerprints, which really brings the whole meadow scene to life. I love that this craft allows everyone to contribute and get creative, no matter their age!
After the handprints and fingerprints are dry, we add the finishing touches: stems, grass, and maybe even some butterflies or flowers drawn with markers. It’s such a personal touch that makes the project feel extra special.
If the kids can, I encourage them to sign their names on their handprints, and we always make sure to add the year somewhere on the paper, so we’ll always remember when we did it.
This project is a wonderful way to celebrate spring while making a beautiful, meaningful keepsake that we can hang up and look back on for years to come. It’s a fantastic way to bond as a family and create something that holds so much love and meaning! 🌷🖐
I hope you and your little ones are feeling inspired to dive into these fun and simple spring projects! Each one is designed to bring out your child’s creativity while celebrating the beautiful season of renewal and growth. Whether you’re creating colorful rainbows, painting delicate flowers, or making a family handprint masterpiece, these activities are a wonderful way to bond, learn, and enjoy the sights and sounds of spring.
