Valentine’s Day has always been one of my favorite times to get creative with kids! There’s just something special about watching little ones pour their hearts into handmade crafts, whether it’s a colorful card for a friend, a glittery heart-shaped decoration, or a sweet little gift for a family member.
Not only do these crafts make for adorable keepsakes, but they also give kids a fun way to express their love and appreciation for the people in their lives. Plus, crafting together is a great way to spend quality time, spark creativity, and even sneak in some fine motor skill practice… all while having a blast with paper, glue, and glitter!
In this post, I’m sharing some of my favorite Valentine’s Day crafts that are both simple and fun. Whether you’re a parent looking for a fun afternoon activity, a teacher planning a classroom project, or simply someone who enjoys crafting with little ones, you’ll find plenty of inspiration here. Most of these crafts use supplies you probably already have at home, so there’s no need for a special trip to the store.
So grab some construction paper, markers, and a little bit of imagination. Let’s make this Valentine’s Day extra special with some handmade creations!
My favorite Valentine’s Day Projects:
1. Handprint Flower Bouquet

Materials:
- Construction paper
- Paint
Instructions:
This handprint flower bouquet is a fun and easy craft that lets little ones create a beautiful keepsake using just paint and paper! Perfect for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or any special occasion, this craft is a wonderful way for kids to make a heartfelt gift with their own hands—literally!
To start, pour a little paint onto a plate or tray, making it easy for little hands to dip into. If you prefer a less messy option, use a brush or sponge to coat their palms and fingers evenly. Once their hand is fully painted, have them press it firmly onto the construction paper to create a handprint flower. Repeat this step using different colors (or just red and pink) to make a lovely bouquet. Let the prints dry before moving on to the next step.
Once the flowers have dried, it’s time to add the stems and leaves. Using green paint, have your child draw long lines from each flower down to the bottom of the paper, connecting them like real flower stems. They can also use their fingers to create small leaf shapes along the sides of the stems. If they want to get extra creative, they can add little details like hearts, dots, or even a sun in the background.
After the painting is complete and dry, your child can personalize their artwork by adding a special message with a marker or crayon. Writing something sweet like “I Love You!” or “Happy Valentine’s Day!” makes the bouquet even more special. Once everything is finished, display their masterpiece proudly on the fridge or gift it to a loved one.
This simple yet meaningful craft is the perfect way for little ones to create something full of love. 🌸
2. Valentine’s Day Wreath

Materials:
- Paper plate
- Glue
- Scissors
- Construction paper
- String
Instructions:
This Valentine’s Day wreath is a fun and simple craft that kids will love making! Using just a few supplies, little ones can create a beautiful decoration to celebrate the holiday. This easy activity is perfect for developing fine motor skills while letting kids express their creativity with colorful hearts and a festive design.
To start, take a paper plate and carefully cut out the center, leaving only the outer ring. This will be the base of the wreath. If your child is too young to cut the center out on their own, you can assist them by folding the plate slightly and cutting a small hole before trimming out the middle. The remaining ring will be the perfect sturdy base for all the heart decorations.
Next, grab some construction paper in Valentine’s colors like red, pink, white, and purple. Have your child cut out hearts in different sizes. If they need a little guidance, you can fold the paper and draw half-heart shapes for them to cut along the fold. If they love variety, they can also tear pieces of paper into heart-like shapes for a fun textured look. Once they have a nice pile of hearts, it’s time to decorate!
Using glue, let your child start attaching the hearts all around the paper plate ring, overlapping them to create a layered effect. They can mix and match colors, shapes, and sizes to make the wreath unique. If they want to add an extra special touch, they can write sweet messages on a few of the hearts, like “I Love You,” “Be Mine,” or “Happy Valentine’s Day!”
Once all the hearts are glued on and dry, punch a small hole at the top of the wreath. Thread a piece of string or yarn through the hole and tie it to create a loop for hanging. Now, the Valentine’s Day wreath is ready to be displayed on a door, wall, or given as a heartfelt handmade gift.
This craft is an easy, mess-free way for kids to spread love and creativity this Valentine’s Day! ❤️
3. Footprint Butterfly

Materials:
- Construction paper
- Paint
- Markers
Instructions:
This footprint butterfly is the perfect way for kids to create a cute and heartfelt Valentine’s Day gift! Not only is it an adorable craft, but it also carries a sweet message. And what I love most about it – it uses just a few materials. It’s a fun way for kids to get creative while making something special for family and friends.
To begin, help your child dip the bottom of their feet into the paint. You can also use a paintbrush or sponge to make sure it’s evenly covered. Choose a bright color like red, pink, or purple for the butterfly’s wings.
Next, have your child step onto the construction paper, pressing their feet so that their toes point outward and their heels touch in the middle of the paper. This will create two beautiful footprint shapes that will form the wings of the butterfly. Let the paint dry completely before continuing with the craft.
Once the footprints are dry, it’s time to add the butterfly’s body. Using a marker, draw a long, thin oval shape in the center of the footprints, connecting the heels of the prints. Then, draw two curvy antennae at the top. To make the butterfly even more special, your child can add some little details like dots, hearts, or patterns on the wings with the markers.
Finally, write the message “You make my heart flutter!” in the space above or below the butterfly to give it a sweet and personal touch. This message ties the craft perfectly to Valentine’s Day, making it a perfect gift for loved ones. Once the paint is dry and the message is written, this craft is ready to be displayed or gifted as a keepsake.
It’s a simple, creative way for kids to share joy and make memories this Valentine’s Day! 🦋
4. I Love You to Pieces Card

Materials:
- Construction paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Markers
Instructions:
Making Valentine’s Day cards is a perfect activity for little hands, helping them practice fine motor skills while making a one-of-a-kind Valentine for someone special. Using just a few basic supplies AND creativity, kids can create a colorful, textured card that expresses just how much they love their family and friends.
To get started, grab a piece of cardstock or construction paper to use as the base of the card. Fold it in half to make a classic greeting card shape. On the front, draw a big heart outline with a marker or crayon. Then, take some red, pink, white, and purple construction paper and cut it into small squares or irregular shapes – these will be the “pieces” that will fill the heart. Kids can have fun gluing the pieces inside the heart, overlapping them slightly to create a mosaic effect.
Once the heart is completely filled, let it dry, and then write “I Love You to Pieces!” across the top or inside the card. They can also decorate with stickers, doodles, or even a personal message to make it extra special.
This craft is a wonderful way for kids to make a meaningful Valentine’s Day gift with their own hands. Whether it’s for a parent, grandparent, teacher, or friend, this handmade card will surely bring a smile to anyone’s face. Plus, it’s a great way for kids to enjoy the holiday with a creative and love-filled project. Let the Valentine’s crafting fun begin! ❤️
5. LOVE Poster

Materials:
- Construction paper
- Markers
- Crayons
- Glitter glue
- Valentine confetti
- Buttons
- Small pom poms
- Stickers
Instructions:
Valentine’s Day is all about spreading love, and what better way for kids to express their creativity than with a love poster? This fun and open-ended craft lets kids decorate large letters spelling LOVE in their own unique way, using whatever craft supplies they have on hand. It’s a perfect activity for home, school, or a fun Valentine’s Day party, and the end result is a beautiful, love-filled masterpiece ready to be displayed!
To start, grab a large sheet of paper or poster board and write the word LOVE in big, bold letters. Make sure the letters are hollow inside, leaving plenty of space for decorations. If drawing the letters freehand seems tricky, you can print out large block letters or lightly sketch them first. Once the letters are outlined, it’s time for the real fun—decorating!
Give kids a variety of craft supplies to work with, such as colored paper, tissue paper, stickers, buttons, glitter, pom-poms, or even pieces of fabric. They can fill in each letter with a different pattern or texture, making the poster as colorful and unique as they like. Some kids might prefer to tear or cut small pieces of construction paper and glue them inside the letters like a mosaic, while others might use markers and crayons to create detailed doodles or patterns. There’s no wrong way to do it—every Love Poster will turn out beautifully in its own way!
Once the poster is complete, it can be hung on the wall, displayed on the fridge, or even given as a heartfelt Valentine’s Day gift. This craft is not only a great way for kids to get creative, but it also encourages them to share love in a fun and artistic way. So, gather some supplies, spread out the glitter, and let the kids bring their LOVE to life with this special Valentine’s Day project! 🎨
I hope these Valentine’s Day craft ideas inspire you to get creative with your little ones. Crafting isn’t just about the final product – it’s about the memories made along the way, the laughter, and the joy of making something with your own hands. No matter which project you choose, the time spent together is what truly makes it meaningful.
So gather your supplies, embrace the mess, and have fun creating some love-filled masterpieces! Whether you’re crafting at home, in a classroom, or with a group of friends, these activities are sure to bring smiles and warm hearts.
And remember, it’s not about perfection. It’s about the love and effort put into each creation.
Wishing you and your little crafters a Valentine’s Day filled with creativity, joy, and lots of handmade love!
